Petya is another ransomware that has hit Windows computers

Just a month ago, we could read about WannaCry malware that attacked users on Windows computers from almost all versions of this operating system.

The main reason this malicious software drew a lot of attention, in addition to the sufficiently high prevalence and damage it has done, is that it was made using a code developed by the US secret services. Such information only confirms that services like NSA do not give up the desire to gain access to massively used operating systems, whether it will be with or without the consent of the companies that develop them.

This month, again, we are reading about a new malware from the ransomware category, re-made using the code developed by US departments.

Petya is the name of this software and just like WannaCry works in a way that makes data encryption on the hacked computer so that the user loses access to that data. In order for the data to be released, the software requires payment of a certain amount of money, such as a ransom, where the name of this type of malicious software comes from.

According to the information, in March, Microsoft released a patch for Windows that protects users, so it is recommended, as always, that you have installed all the latest versions of the system you are using.

Also, unlike WannaCry, Petya is not widespread to that extent, and this is probably due to the fact that it only spreads to the local network when it infects a particular computer.

However, in addition to recommending a regular update of the operating system, it is recommended to use anti-virus software, whether paid or any of the free versions.
